Creating publications in Adobe InDesign for print is a complex process. Many design agencies lose time and money to get their final designs correct and approved.
Why is this?

Many stakeholders… Closed applications not designed for online collaboration… Many review cycles… Confusion about the last version…

A challenge we accepted: search for new ways to improve the approval process for Adobe InDesign documents for print publication.

CHIMPRA is the online tool for Adobe InDesign Print documents,  giving marketeers protected file access to check and improve content.

No more endless review cycles!
No more correction post-it missed!

The application was developed following steps in Design Thinking, each step could be iterated.
This process is also known as the double diamond.

CHALLENGE

All too often, adverts and brochures are published with big or less obvious mistakes. Although reviewed several times by motivated staff, it seems very hard to get it right…

The reason is to be found in the complex approval process.

Reviewers are using notes, post-its, email messages, and various other tools to exchange feedback. The comments need to be processed by the designer, working in his Adobe InDesign CC application. When finished a new review cycle is launched.

And again and again, until it’s right (or it’s deadline…)

How to solve this issue?

PROCESS

The application was developed following steps in Design Thinking, each step could be iterated. This process is also known as the double diamond.

  • research
  • value based proposition
  • customer journey
  • MVP
  • application flow
  • sketches
  • prototype
  • test
  • [ iterate ]
  • product launch

This case study shows all the steps in the (UX) design process I used for launching a new digital service.

THE RESULT

An online collaboration platform for all stakeholders of a (print) project. Instead of sending PDF proofs with annotations, CHIMPRA offers a live collaboration tool on the shared Adobe InDesign document. Reviewers who don’t have an Adobe InDesign CC app installed, can edit the shared document.

CHIMPRA reduces review cycles, faster production cycles, and a better result by collaborating online together on the single version of the Adobe InDesign document.
